Laureate bust of Chersonas left, draped; XEPCONNHCEITωN clockwise around;
border of dots.
Artemis running left looking back; holds in left bow and arrow, in raised right spear;
monogramm in left field; In right field PKE (year 125 = 101 AD); border of dots.

This is a rather unusual coin with overstrike and double strike.

On the obverse, the head of Chersonas left is not often observed on the coinage of
the city, there are, however, few exceptions as for example on the bronze specimen Anochin
228  (80 AD). Both staters quoted by Anochin 215 (47 AD) and 216 (49 AD)
have also the head right. They also have the ethnikon abbreviated to XEP in the usual manner instead of fully spelled out here. The exception can be seen on the Anochin
AE coin 229 (80 AD).

The reverse shows the typical Artemis image and monogramm in the left field. In the Anochin staters the year is engraved vertically below this monogramm. On this
specimen
the year is shown horizontally to right. This may be due to lack of space
on left for a date spelled with three instead of two letters. The stag in the lower right
field is missing.
There are traces of similar monogramm on the upper left filed which
may be useful for
the identification of the initial coin.

The specimen is assumed to be authentic.

Anochin 228, 233, 248/249 (80-134 AD); BM BS ---; RPC III 955/956 (106-134 AD)
