o'clock VF σmax(SigmaTest, 240 kHz) = obv. 41.4; rev. 46.3 MS/m Diademed and cuirassed bust of Mauricius Tiberius right; DN MA[V / TIbER PP] clockwise around. Large Є right; officina letter B to right; border line. The obverse shows well discernible traces of a large head right in the background, partly mixed with the insciption at the top. A smaller bust right has been clearly struck on top of the background image, indicating that it could be an overstrike. This engraving is very rough and similar to the portraits on the AE coins of the late kings of Bosporus (285-342 AD). It might also be a countermark, however, there are no traces of a countermark die. Sear Byzantine 501 Ex Savoca Coins 96/1744, 28.2.2021 |
